Greetings!
Thanks for taking the time to visit this site. You may be here for a variety of
reasons. My hope is that some of your
questions may be answered. The
information you’ll find here is directed primarily towards athletic teams. It is likely that you have heard a little
about the impact of this training since I’ve been in over 225 School Districts
in
The training format utilizes a series of fun, challenging, and
entertaining activities that allow participants to experience the concepts that
relate to them individually and as a team. My role as a facilitator is to
follow up activities with dialogue about how what they learned and experienced
applies to them. Because they participate in the message, they are going
to have a blast, remember it, and most importantly, make applications to their
performance as athletes. It is hands on learning with unlimited potential.
I
hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.
The whole idea of experiential
learning is so effective because it equips athletes with the necessary tools
to deal with the mental aspects of training
and competition. The experience is a
power tool that can be designed to touch on a variety of issues… many of which
are addressed in the questions below.
* Do you feel
many of your athletes don’t understand the concept of “team”?
* In practice
would you say that you have many athletes who aren’t focused and end up going
through the motions?
* Have your
athletes developed the “skill” of goal setting in the skill/performance realm?
* How well do
your athletes handle frustration, setbacks & adversity?
* Have they established
a clear picture of what level they are shooting for, striving for and working
to achieve?
* Do you feel
your athletes establish a habit of intensity, and recognize the value of hard
work?
* Is there a
sense of passion and purpose in the practice environment?
* Do the athletes understand the difference between the “Pursuit of Excellence” and the “Pursuit of Winning”?
* Is there
recognition of the obstacles that keep them (individually, or as a team) from
reaching their goals?
* In the heat of
a competitive moment… do your athletes maintain control of their emotions?
* Does the “fear
of losing” inhibit their level of performance?
* Does the lack
of communication hinder your team’s ability to support each other?
* Have you had
issues with athletes making poor choices?
(Alcohol and other drugs, etc.)
* Individually… is there a lot of negative self talk, or lack of self confidence?
* Do your
captains know how to be leaders?
* Do players have
a difficult time accepting their role and responsibility on the team?
* Do you feel
your athletes are able to read, react and anticipate things as they transpire
during competition?
* How well does
your team handle the plateaus that are inevitable in athletics?
* I'll often provide coaches with worksheets/handouts that will challenge the athletes further in some of those crucial areas.
Two options in taking your team to the next
level…
Option No. 1 I’ll
visit your facility to challenge your athletes
As
mentioned above, I will utilize a series of fun and crazy
activities to teach athletes valuable concepts
related to: Teambuilding,
confidence and the power of self talk, goal setting,
dealing with frustration,
communication, focus and awareness skills, making good
choices and
other areas that meet coaches objectives. Teams
have a BLAST, but more
importantly they are challenged individually and as a
team to take their
abilities and life to the next level. Experience is the foundation of effective
learning.
Experience in itself is worth a thousand words. It is hands on
learning with unlimited potential.
Sessions last up to three hours. In that time frame, I may do ten activities,
but choose from over 75 different activities, depending on the objectives of
each coach. When I starting working with athletic teams in 2003 I did not
anticipate coaches having me do multiple sessions with their teams. Many coaches have me back each year. A gym provides me with the best options in
planning a training agenda. I bring all
the necessary equipment for the training experience. With HS sports programs, I
usually work with all the athletes from in grades 9-12. Some coaches choose to have me work
exclusively with their Varsity, and Varsity/JV athletes. There are benefits to either option.
Take your team to the next level!
Option
No. 2 Make a visit to the JUMP Challenge Course.

In addition to activities that can be
done at your site your team will
experience a variety of high elements and the 60’climbing tower. With the
“Challenge by
Choice” rule it is up to you what you do and how far you do it.
Even without a
trained facilitator, the challenge course is an awesome tool.
This experience
develops trust, increases self confidence, helps participants
to overcome fear and get out of their comfort zone. Your team will never be
the same. It
is no wonder ropes courses are one of the most sought after
corporate seminars in the nation. The impact is powerful!
Don’t Limit Your Challenges, Challenge Your
Limits
Training
sessions on the challenge course last up to four hours. The
time is typically divided between low elements
and high elements. Normally
we schedule sessions on the challenge course
Tuesday – Saturday from either
9:00am
– 1:00pm, or 1:30 – 5:30pm. Weather in
obstacle, so we have a limited season on the
challenge course, usually Mid April
through Mid October. If you’re looking for an effective and
affordable way to
challenge your team, whether you are State
Champions, National Champions
or last place in the conference, this is
it! Please feel free to call or e-mail
me
if you have any questions at all, or would
like references. I would appreciate the
chance to work with your program. E-mail me at jump@cloudnet.com for more
information about prices for either option described
above.
Potential
and ability don’t guarantee improved performance.
Talented individuals do not necessarily mean you’ll have a strong team.

“Rick does such a fabulous job meeting
specific training objectives and makes the time spent so worthwhile.
We’ve worked with him five times in times
in the last two years.”
- Laura Halldorson, Head Coach, Minnesota
Gopher Women’s Hockey -
“I was very impressed with
your training session and the impact it had on our team. The learning
activities that you put our team through really facilitate the goals and
objectives we set out to accomplish as a team.
Working together, with a team first attitude, and generating enthusiasm
for the day to day hard work are some of the results that we have seen from
your session. To be able to take 100 plus young men and keep their attention
for three hours was awesome! How you take the activities and relate them back
to their role on the team is the best part of it all. You hit all the things we
try to hit as coaches, but coming from someone else in a different way is
really meaningful. I hope that we are able to bring you back again this next
year.”
- Jay Schoenebeck, Head Coach,
“Thanks again so much for taking the time to
work with my girls! They loved
everything about the training. We are
just so excited to bring you back again or bring the girls to the Challenge
Course. You have left many marks on
these girls and our staff. So much of
what you talked about we will continue to utilize throughout our coaching and
teaching efforts. You were the best!”
- Gwen Thielke, Head Coach,
“I spent the day watching young minds
unfold as Rick charismatically led them on an adventure to question and
discover their boundaries and limitations. Rick revealed how performance
can be undermined by unfounded preconceived ideas and success can be limited by
self talk. His presentation was extremely compelling; he lives what he
presents and leaves an indelible mark on participants.”
Alan Reischl - Parent of Student Athlete
and Pilot for United Airlines
“Thanks for everything Rick. I learned so much from you and have been able
to apply those things each day since your training session with the team. You changed the way that I think about myself
and most importantly… how I talk to myself.”
College VB Player
“I can’t
believe how much you changed the way I look at sports. You REALLY got to me. I’m glad that you are able to do this for so
many people! This is a team saving experience. Thanks so much.”
“This was the coolest thing I’ve ever
done!”

If you are curious about my
background…Over the past 17 years I’ve played more than 8,000 volleyball games
against teams of six without losing a game.
I use this platform to share a message about setting goals, and staying
chemically free with students all over the country. Long hours of personal training have taught
me about motivation, discipline and making the most of my abilities. In 2000
JUMP added another exciting tool… the JUMP Challenge Course... complete with a
60’ Climbing tower and seven other high elements. I feel my training as a facilitator, teacher,
coach and motivational speaker equips me with the tools to make a difference.

JUMP (Jumpin’ Up w/Mighty Power) started
officially in 1992 as a tax exempt non profit organization. For the first eight years of JUMP’s existence, volleyball was the primary platform to
reach young people. The High Ropes Challenge Course was built in the
spring of 2000 with funds from the Thomas A. Ritsche
Youth Grant. The grant was awarded to JUMP through the Central Minnesota
Community Foundation. The grant was set up for one year of operation, but
the mission lives on. During the first
three years the challenge course operated without charging any fee at all, but
the costs of insurance, maintenance and equipment are hard to keep up with.
